The world’s most luxurious and modern Metro running in the Qatari capital. The new metro fits well into Qatar’s wider rail plans, ahead of 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Qatar Rail opened the Doha Metro to the public in May 2019. It is Qatar’s first-ever underground railway system, designed to improve the traffic problems and accommodate future growth in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which the Gulf state is hosting. “Transport and mobility are important for any city, but it becomes even more critical for rapidly growing cities where demand is increasing exponentially each year,” says Qatar Rail managing director Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie.
The metro system will support Qatar’s wider 2030 strategy called “National Vision”. Doha Metro will be directly connected to the Lusail Tram and Long-Distance Rail networks, therethrough be connected to the wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) rail network. Put together, Qatar Rail declares that the planned national network will bring all railway in Qatar together and connect to neighboring countries to create the region’s first fully integrated rail system.
Application
Modern design and modern technology are key in the Doha Metro project. By combining traditional elements with modern features, the project will generate the region’s most comfortable, reliable, and safe railway system. This includes both train carriages and at the stations.
The driverless trains can travel at speeds up to 100km/h and each train has 130 seats and can accommodate a total of 416 people. To ensure a perfect station experience, passenger comfort is to the forefront and therefore to cope with the Middle East climate, FlowCon has supplied PICV-valve-sets for the chilled water fan coils as well as stand-alone units for AHUs. We are pleased to join the train ride and contribute to regional development.
The effort to stand out has resulted Qatar Rail’s Doha Metro project being named as the proud winner of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation International Awards 2020, which recognizes outstanding examples of highways and transportation infrastructure and in the process beat off strong opposition from other mega projects in the US, Africa, Asia and the Balkans. FlowCon recognizes this tremendous achievement in winning such a prestigious award and we look forward to continuous cooperation.
