Umm al Seneem Park, Doha, Qatar

Recreational facilities in Qatar are growing. And with the opening of the world's longest air-conditioned outdoor walking track, this is hoped to encourage everyone to choose a more active and health lifestyle even during the hotter months of the year.

Umm Al Seneem Park opened to the public as a family park in late 2022. It covers 130.000 m² including the world's longest air-conditioned outdoor walking track. The 1.143-meter pedestrian walkway or jogging track is the fifth project of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to obtain a Guinness World Record.

Besides the 68% green areas, like most other parks, Umm al Seneem also offers Children’s play areas and restrooms. Toilets and one play area are even ADA compliant disabled facilities.

And if walking or jogging is not enough, the park provides a fully equipped outdoor fitness area including ‘The Fitness Box’. The Fitness Box is a solar powered upcycled shipping container and equipped with big screens to transmit free fitness classes to the community. As supplement to both jogging track and fitness area, comes a 1.135-meter cushioned bike lane (bike rental is available at the park as well) and a reflexology path where you can walk barefoot on a cobblestone path which helps the blood circulation and eventually better health.

This project certainly backs United Nation’s SDG 3 being ‘Good Health and Well-Being’ offering free access to everybody.
 

Application

The air-conditioned outdoor walking track in a special application. The system to control the air temperature in the walkway combines various cooling systems to reduce electricity consumption, reduce the temperature to 26°C and increase air weight by 1-2% to preserve cold air inside the air-conditioned space. The air-condition for the walking track is handled by a number of AHUs in underground plantrooms. All AHUs are equipment with pressure independent balancing and control valves, PICVs. Due to the required higher volume and higher flowrates and specific needs, the AHUs are installed with FlowCon SM and FlowCon Green.3. We are delighted that this track is recognized by The Guinness World Record being the longest air-conditioned outdoor walking track.
